Fresh Paint for the New Year

If you’ve been thinking about getting your home ready for the spring selling season, nothing freshens up a home like new paint. Although you probably know that a neutral color scheme works best when you’re trying to sell, sometimes a little color in the right places will make your home look more up-to-date. Just make sure you go easy on the color. Try painting just one wall as an accent, and don’t choose a color that’s too bold. Then add a couple of throw pillows, an area rug, or other pieces in the same color to make it look really pulled together.

Colors, just like fashion, can go in and out of style. To determine current color trends you can go to your local paint or hardware store and find the latest color chips. Some paint companies will even create a whole color palette to show you which colors to use that will complement one another.

Each year designers and manufacturers select a new palette of colors to be highlighted during that year. Pantone, the leading authority on color matching has recently announced their picks for the year. Their #1 color, Marsala, is a rusty shade of red. It’s said to enrich the mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. It makes a very bold statement. If you choose this color be sure to use it sparingly.
